The horror!

Bought a new CD by a favourite artist the other day ....got home, popped it in, settled down to listen. Song #3 - it happened. On the lyric sheet it's SPELLED "jewelry" but blasting through my living room, it was definitely "jew-le-ree".

Even typing that made me wince.

And down here in the southern reaches it's "jewellery" ...

For me it's stuff like "I wish I was" instead of "I wish I were" that makes my back twitch.

I can't stand it when people apostrophise (?? word) "it's" when it isn't supposed to be. That and making "a lot" one word ...

errant apostrophes drive me nuts too. Ok Ok I accept Ive probably used one in less than perfect fashion once or twice. LEAVE IT OUT rather than place it incorrectly. Leaving it out doesnt change the sense of a sentence as much as using it incorrectly. It is known that the brain basically applies grammar to sentences when none exists. So using one incorrectly messes with the ole noggin.

Especially on a plural word. Drives me nut's or nuts' or nut's'.

I'm having a hard time getting excited about this!

ditto Darien

however I must admit not liking some parts of central canadian pronounciations; for example: the word 'house', is pronounced 'hoose', using the vowel sounds of the double vowel; oo. As opposed to the western Canadian pronounciation of house; as 'howse'. Same with the word 'blouse'. OK, now I will go into my howse and put on my blowse.
As for my Newfie husband and Newfie neighbours, then,I will go out and firk the soil.

Firk, ferk, v.t.(shak.) to whip or beat: to rouse.
I finally found the meaning to this term in the Chambers's''' Twentieth Century Dictionary 1931.

I maintain its kinky soundingness!
